Zusammenfassung: | 10,612. Gamble, J. W. May 5. Feed-water, heating, purifying, and supplying; settling-chambers.-When a filter through which the water is passed becomes clogged, heated and chemically-treated water is supplied through a by-pass to the boiler. Water and chemicals enter the heater A from the pipes 4, 5, respectively, and come into contact, as they fall over the trays 10, with exhaust steam supplied through the pipe 1 and separators 2. The treated water passes through the filter 15 to the outlet 16. A float 8 in the chamber 7, which has a vent pipe 9 connected with the heater, operates the water-supply valve 6. When the filter becomes clogged, water from which the impurities have settled rises up under the hood 11, to which a vent pipe 12 is fitted, and passes by the pipe 13 to the space below the filter. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 2, a different method of drawing-off the water beneath the hood 11 is adopted, and the pipe 13 is fitted with a regulating valve 17. In the form shown in Fig. 3, a spring or otherwise loaded check-valve 24 is used, so that the water passes through the by-pass only when the clogging of the filter has led to an increased head of water in the purifier. Some other form of resistance may be substituted for the loaded valve. |
