Zusammenfassung: | 2935. Shore, E. Feb. 7. Turning-gear for starting the engine of a motor-car without requiring the operator to leave his seat, consists of a one-way clutch on the engine shaft which is driven through gearing from the car. A sleeve c is pinned to the engine shaft a. One element d of a clutch slides on a portion of the sleeve c. A spring e normally. tends: to keep the clutch in gear. An auxiliary shaft k is driven from the shaft m by bevel-wheels. The shaft m is operated by a ratchet-wheel p,. pawl n, and lever o. The pawl n is pressed downwards by a spring n , and, when the lever o is brought back to its normal position for use, a roller q slides on an inclined rail r and the pawl is lifted out of gear, the roller resting in a recess at the head of the rail r. this construction frees the lever o from the other part of the mechanism in the case of the engine ' kicking' in starting. When the motor is to be started, the clutch is thrown into gear by means of levers g, i, and the lever o is pulled over and thus the engine shaft is turned and starting effected, the engine overrunning the starting-mechanism. |
