Improvements in Collar Stiffeners

25,793. Mann [geb. Windhoff], M. Dec. 12. Stays or stiffeners.-Collar stiffeners are made so that steels, whalebones, or canes used for stiffening purposes may be easily removed. Fig. 1 shows a collar stiffener made of fabric with large meshes through which the steels b are threaded, the ends of the steels being held in strips d of suitable material arranged along the edges of the fabric. If desired, groups of stiffening-threads may be arranged in the fabric. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the fabric is made with finer meshes and the steels b are held in the centre by a cord g and at the ends by pockets formed in the edges of the fabric.
