Zusammenfassung: | 14,119. Sommer, W. July 8. Crucibles and melting-pots.-Crucibles for melting and casting metals have a special flow passage which allows the metal to be drawn from the lower part of the crucible where the metal is free from dirt. The body a of the crucible is of any form and is made of plumbago, earthenware, or other suitable material. A partition b, extending from the external edge to within a few centimetres of the bottom d, forms a passage c. By inclining the crucible, the metal which is discharged by the passage c is drawn from the lower layers of the molten metal and consequently does not contain the dirt or scum which floats on the surface. A lip f facilitates the casting, while a flange g prevents the metal from overflowing the partition b, and a small inclined flange h at the lower end of the partition b facilitates the passage of the molten metal into the passage c and tends to retain the dirt crust i. The crucible may be made in parts and connected together. |
