Zusammenfassung: | 7444. Greenwood, J. W. April 8. Electric-lamp lanterns. -In rear lamps of motor road vehicles, and in other places where a constant light must be maintained, two electric lamps are provided, one of which is automatically lit, by the device shown, on the failure of the other. The incandescent lamps d, Fig. 1, are mounted in sockets d on an ebonite or other insulating-base c forming the cover of a box b. On the base care also terminals f, g, to which the leads are secured, and brackets h, h supporting an electromagnet i, shown in bottom plan view in Fig. 4. One end of the magnet coil is connected to the bracket h, and the other to the positive terminal e" of one lamp. The bracket h is insulated by a washer g from the terminal g, which is connected by a copper strip k to the negative terminals of the lamps. When the electromagnet i is not excited, its armature j rests against a contact l, thereby connecting the bracket h to the positive terminal e of the second lamp. Instead of two lamps, a single lamp with two filaments may be employed. |
