Zusammenfassung: | 4984. Schaller, K. F. Feb. 29. Smiths' forges.-Relates to a folding field forge in which the fan, together with the driving-gear attached to it, and the legs of the forge can be packed in a box formed by the hearth, the sides of the forge, and hinged leaves which form the lid of the box. Fig. 2 shows a part sectional view of the forge, of which the front and back pairs of legs b, c are pivoted at f to the sides of the forge, and tied by rods e, d. The legs are prevented from opening out too far by means of stops i, and rods g are employed to secure them further. The fan is pivoted upon the blast nozzle u and a lug v, and is driven by treadle gearing, which is supported by a bar z, loosely connected to the fan spindle, and secured to a stay 11 by means of a stud 9, which also forms a bearing for the treadle lever 10. The flywheel 3 is mounted upon a slide block 1, which may be adjusted in position on the bar z, by means of the screw 7, for adjusting the belt 4. Fig. 3 is a view of the forge seen from below when folded. The leaves of the forge are provided with hinged struts n, which, when the forge is not in use, are placed as shown in Fig. 3, but, when in use, are secured to the legs of the forge. To fold the forge, a screw 17, which grips the upper end of the stay 11, is released, and the treadle, which is jointed at 12, is folded into the position shown in Fig. 3, after which the bar z and all the parts connected to it are turned upon the spindle of the fan, and, by folding down the fan, are lowered into the box, after which the legs are swivelled round into the box and the leaves turned over. |
