Zusammenfassung:403. Grieve, G. K., and Peebles, W. C. Jan. 7. Pressure-regulating valves; gas valves; equilibrium valves.-In a gas governor, the gas inlet is controlled by a double-beat valve operated by a float valve, the position of which is regulated by the outlet pressure. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a double-beat valve for controlling the gas inlet is formed from two cones A' connected at their apices and closing against seatings A , A . Tubular perforated extensions C, C may be provided to serve as guides for the valve. The valve is connected by a third cone A to a float bell A which is on the outlet side B of the governor. The governor can be regulated by means of compressed air supplied to the interior of the bell A by a pipe D connected to a suitable holder. To prevent oscillation, the bottom of the bell is closed by a baffle-plate D having orifices D', E, of which the orifice D is closed by a flap valve, while the opening E is of small area. The flap valve may be replaced by an annular disc sliding on the pipe D, a separate small opening being formed in the plate D' to allow egress of water. The arrangement for preventing oscillation of the bell may be used with other forms of gas governor, In a modification, the governor is regulated by weights acting on the bell directly or through a lever, and the weight of the bell is counterbalanced partially or entirely by means of a float which may be placed at the lower part of the bell or in a separate chamber. The interior of the bell communicates with the atmosphere through a central pipe, the external opening of which is closed by a perforated plug. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the bell A, to which a double-beat valve A is attached, works in a mercury seal C'. The outlet opening B communicates with the underside of the bell by openings H. Or the spindle A of the valve may be connected by a lever to a horizontal spindle passing through a stuffing-box in the valve casing and connected by a second lever to the spindle of a controlling-bell working in a second chamber.
