Zusammenfassung:82. Kochend÷rfer, H. Jan. 1. Type-writers.-Relates to machines in which the characters are arranged on wheels or shuttles, the parts being brought into a position for printing by spring-actuated toothed gearing. The typewheel is set by a wheel 9 actuated through gearing 4, 5, 6, 7 from a vertical spindle 2 on which is mounted a ratchet-wheel actuated by a pawl 3 on a lever 15 connected with a coiled spring 16. The wheel 9 also actuates a locking-arm 12 which acts in conjunction with stop-pins 20 connected with the key-levers. The pawl-lever 15 is engaged by an arm 18 extending from the paper carriage so that during the return motion of the carriage the spring 16 is tightened up. The printing is effected by an electromagnet 27 and armature 28, a fingerpiece on the latter operating the bearing-frame 29 of the type-wheel. The carriage is also operated through a link 30 from the armature 28. The circuit is closed by a switch 24 operated on the descent of a key and by the contacting of the arm 12 with a stop-pin. A centrally-disposed abutment for locking the arm 12 in the initial position is carried by a swinging frame 22 also operated on the descent of a key to raise the abutment clear of the arm.
