Zusammenfassung: | 19,272. Reeves, C. Sept. 7. Pistons; slide valves.-Pistons and piston valves are provided with a packing-ring at each end which can be adjusted independently of each other from one end of the piston. The packing-rings g, 48 are retained by plates h, 19 and bolts r, 40. They are made taper inside, and are expanded by cones w, 52. The cone w has a boss to work between collars 5 on a spindle f screwing into a sleeve 9, on which the boss of the cone 52 screws. The sleeve 9 is locked by set-screws 12 and a key 24 to the plate 19, and the rod f is turned in it to adjust the ring g, while, to adjust the ring 48, the rod f and sleeve 9 are locked together by a washer 30 and set-screws 32 and a key 33, and both are rotated, thereby causing the cone 52 to move along them. Both rings may be adjusted simultaneously. Leakage at the joint in the rings is prevented by side plates 58, Fig. 6, pivoted to them and a plate 62 embedded in the cones. |
