Zusammenfassung: | 14,746. Hagger, W. T. July 2. Vapour lamps; hand lamps; signal lamps. -In hand, signal, and other lamps, a burner of the Barton type is provided with a wick-tube having a constricted part running vertically up the centre. The wick is shaped similarly to the tube, the flow of oil at the centre of the wick being thereby checked and a flame produced which is hollow at the apex. The burner a is connected to the reservoir b by a pin c, which enters a socket d of the reservoir, the two parts forming a bayonet joint which is invisible from the exterior, and is protected from dirt. The oil which overflows from the wick-tube e passes through an orifice g , Fig. 5, which leads into a cup-shaped portion g provided with a perforated part h, through which the oil may pass to the reservoir. An inverted cup-shaped part j is formed with a serrated edge k, which rests in the cup g, so that the vapour generated in the reservoir may escape when its pressure exceeds a safe limit. Asbestos or other non-conducting washers prevent the heat of the burner from being transmitted to the reservoir, the button for turning the spindle of the wick-raising device being similarly protected. |
