Improvements in Devices for Cleaning Boots and Shoes before Entering a House

13,562. White, W. S., and Sherwin, I. S. June 17. Boots and shoes, cleaning and polishing.-Relates to a combined brush and scraper for cleaning boots and shoes before entering a house. It comprises a brush 18 on one side of the stock of which is fixed a metal plate 20 serving as a scraper. The appliance is supported in uprights 11, 12, forming a part of a plate 10 which is fixed to the ground. The brush stock is provided at one end with a cylindrical trunnion 14, which is engaged with a keyhole-shaped slot in the upright 11 and at the other end with a rectangular trunnion 17 engaged in a similar slot in the upright 12. On the end of the trunnion 17 is a trip-piece 21, preferably of S-shape; this can be lifted by the foot so as to raise the trunnion into the wide end of the slot and turn the appliance round so as to bring into use the brush or scraper as required. An opening 22 extending into the slot in the upright 12 allows of the withdrawal of the trunnion 17, and the trunnion 14 is easily withdrawn from the wide end of the slot in the npright 11 so that the whole appliance can be readily removed.
