Zusammenfassung: | 10,819. Yeiser, J. C., and Thaxton, W. H. May 12. Couplings, automatic.-Relates to couplings of the Janney type. Between eats 5, 5, on the head 5 of the draw-bar is pivoted, on a bolt 7, a substantially L-shaped knuckle 6. A pin 8 is adapted to rest, when the coupling is open, on the sloping end of an extension 6 of the tail-piece 6. By the impact of two jaws 6, the knuckles 6 will be made to assume the position shown in Fig. 2, allowing the pins 8 to drop, and lock the jaws in the closed position. The jaws are automatically opened, when the pins 8 are raised, by springs 9, one end of each of which is attached to a jaw, while the other is free except that it is held to the outside of the head by a staple 10, or it may be fastened inside the head. A loop 11 is provided for the attachment of a flexible connection to open the jaw 6 should the spring 9 break. |
