Beschreibung
Zusammenfassung:12,446. Middleton, P. C., and Smith, W. S. H. May 31. Vibrations, indicating and registering.-Vibrations, particularly those produced in buildings by motors, machinery, and the like, are transmitted to a horizontal surface of mercury, and indicated by the indistinctness of an image formed by convergent rays of light which have been reflected by the mercury. Rays from a source of light c pass through the stop e and an adjustable converging combination of lenses b. They are reflected at the surface of the mercury f, and come to a focus at d upon a screen or moving sensitized paper which forms a record. The interior surface of the vessel a is of some substance to which mercury does not adhere, and a mask g is preferably provided to keep the reflection central. When the apparatus is indicating the vibrations of gases, a diaphragm is suitably connected with the mercury.
