Zusammenfassung: | 4662. Deutsch, S., and Hochhauser, O. Feb. 24. Casting. - To produce iron or steel castings of increased density with residual magnetism and increased permeability, the metal is cast in a magnetic field, the direction of the lines of force being changed while the metal is molten, to aid in expelling gases, and kept constant while the metal solidifies. The casting is arranged to complete a magnetic circuit between the poles of two or more electromagnets. Fig. 2 shows a bar magnet cast between the poles c, d of an electromagnet a. The Provisional Specification refers to dynamos, and also states that the increased density of the castings renders them useful for armour plates, axles, &c. |
