Zusammenfassung:1049. Jack, T. B. Jan. 14. Acetylene.-Relates, chiefly, to means for introducing the carbide into the water and to purifying- apparatus. Upon the top of the bell c, which is placed in a water jacket b surrounding the generator a, is a cylinder in which a number of pistons e are movable by a rod f. This rod is connected to a guide running on a rod k and to a hand-lever 9 pivoted at h to a lever i pivoted at j on the bell c. When the pistons are raised, carbide is placed between them, and, when they are lowered, the carbide is discharged into the water without admitting air. The purifier consists of a chamber q covered by a bell s mounted in a water jacket r. The chamber is divided by perforated partitions u and v into three chambers w, x, y which are, respectively, charged with coke saturated with sulphuric acid, a mixture of chloride of lime and iron oxide, and oil. The gas passes from the purifier to an ordinary holder, which is sunk in the ground. Cocks o, t on the bells c, s serve to allow air to escape on commencing working.
