Improvements in Preserving Jars

3618. Davis, J. W., and Dopheide, F. E. Feb. 19. Stoppers.-Relates to stoppers for preserving jars. The neck 2 of the jar is formed with a groove 3 to receive the tubular or solid elastic washer 6, the upper surface of the groove being perpendicular, and the lower surface inclined, to the axis of the neck. The stopper 8 is provided with a bail or handle 9, and is also formed with a washer-groove 7, the lower surface of which is perpendicular and the upper surface inclined. The stopper is inserted edgewise past the washer 6, and is then turned into the position shown, and drawn up until the washer is engaged in the groove 7. The stopper is withdrawn by a reverse operation.
