Stoppers.-Relates to tanks, containers, canisters, &c. having hermetically-closing detachable lids, and applicable for holding calcium carbide, explosives, or any other materials. Straps e, riveted &c. to the body, strengthen it and carry the eye-bolts d. These bolts take into slots in straps i, h attached to the lid, which is tightened by the washers and nuts d . One of the straps h may form a handle and their ends are bent back on themselves. The edge of the can may be thickened, and it bears against a rubber, felt, &c. washer c lying in a groove formed by the two casings c , c of the lid.
