Zusammenfassung:194. Lancaster, E. W. Jan. 3. Acetylene.-Relates to purifying-apparatus for acetylene gas. A flanged cylinder a, supported by a frame s, is closed at the bottom by a plate b, and is provided at the top with a cover c, which can be sealed by a screw f working in a cross-bar e pivoted to one side of the cylinder and secured by a catch at the other as in gas retorts. A cartridge n of felt, blanket, or other suitable material, containing purifying or drying materials, the ingredients of which are preferably arranged in layers m separated by wads of felt &c. p, is closed at the top by a felt cover q, and formed with handles o by which it can be readily inserted into the cylinder so as to rest on a perforated false bottom or flange d as shown. Suitable inlet and outlet passages k and l are provided for the gas. When exhausted, the cartridge is removed and replaced by a fresh one. The cylinder may be arranged horizontally, in which case the cartridges are preferably closed at each end by perforated discs connected by bolts.
