Zusammenfassung: | 20,815. Turrell, C. M., and Accles, J. G. Oct. 17. Motor road vehicles.-Relates to power-transmitting and speed-controlling gear of the nature of a hydraulic clutch, enabling the vehicle to be started or stopped or its speed changed without undue shock. The pulley or wheel a to be driven is loosely mounted on the driving-shaft b. Carried on the wheel are a series of hydraulic cylinders c, the pistons in which are connected to a cam, crank, or eccentric e on the shaft. Each cylinder has admission and outlet valves h and f, the latter being adjustable by means of the sliding sleeve f . When the valves f are wide open, the pistons can work in the cylinders without meeting with any material resistance, but when they are shut the piston cannot reciprocate, and the wheel or pulley is accordingly locked to the shaft. By partially opening the valves f, the speed may be varied as desired. The whole apparatus is preferably enclosed in a tank containing oil, water, glycerine, or other suitable liquid from which the cylinders draw and into which they discharge. |
