Zusammenfassung: | 26,714. Pettersson, A. L., and Karlqvist, X. J. Dec. 17. Brakes; driving-mechanism.-Relates to a backpedalling brake for cycles. The rear chain-wheel 5 is flanged as shown, and is mounted upon rollers 4 carried in sockets 3 in a ring 2 clamped on the rear hub. Two plates 8 and 9, pierced by oval holes 15 and mounted upon rings 6 and 7 rigidly secured to the hub, are connected together by a pin 11 carrying a roller 13, and by a pivoted pin and roller formed with an arm 14 adapted to engage between the links of the chain. During forward driving, the chain-wheel is clamped to the ring 2 by the balls 4 and drives the cycle, but a slight back pressure on the pedals releases the ring 2 and allows the cycle to run freely. Further back-pedalling first causes the roller to revolve and carry the arm 14 between the links of the chain, and then forces the plates 8 and 9 backward so as to cause the oval holes 15 to grip the hub and retard the cycle. A pin 16 prevents the roller 13 from pressing upward on the chain. |
