Zusammenfassung: | 20,702. Trueman, H. P., and Scrivens, J. Oct. 1. Steering-mechanism. - Relates to a frictional steering-lock for cycles whereby the handle-bar may be prevented from turning so that it may be used as a support for the cycle. A resilient coil a lies within the steering-socket d and surrounds the steering-post c. The ends a , a of the coil pass through holes d , d in the socket lug, and are screwed for the reception of tensioning-nuts e. By screwing up the nuts e the coil is contracted upon the post c, thus locking the steering-mechanism. One end only of the cord may be screwed, and the other fixed to the lug. In a modification, the coil is arranged so that it tends to close upon the steering-post and requires to be expanded by means of the nuts to free it from the post. Various means for applying and maintaining tension upon the coil, such as ratchet and pawl mechanism, cottars, wedges, cams, levers, set-screws and plates, &c. may be employed. |
