Zusammenfassung: | 19,944. Tickner, G. L. Sept. 20. Puzzles.-A box having bottom, sides, and a transparent top may be divided into two compartments by a horizontal sliding plate 7 having openings 10 affording communication between the two compartments. The plate is pushed in or drawn out by an external handle 14 to close or open the openings. The top surface of the plate, or, if the plate be omitted, of the bottom, is provided with a number of recesses or countersinks 11 arranged in any form. A corresponding number of balls 9 are enclosed in the box. The puzzle consists in so manipulating the box that the balls enter the recesses. The balls may be differently coloured, each ball having its own particular recess or set of recesses. When the plate is out so as to form the openings 10, the puzzle is more difficult, as no balls should roll into the lower compartment. |
