Method of Transforming Silico-fluorides and Borofluorides into Corresponding Fluorides or Fluorine Compounds

21,073. Reich, J. Sept. 14. Fluorides; alkali manufacture.-Relates to the decomposition of silicofluorides or borofluorides to obtain the corresponding fluoride, oxide, or oxysalt such as carbonate. The silicofluoride or borofluoride, say of sodium, is heated to a low red heat along with an alkaline-earth oxide, to which may also be added carbon, alumina, or silica in certain cases. Sodium or other fluoride forms, and may be extracted by washing, and afterwards decomposed, if desired, to form the oxide or an oxysalt, such as carbonate. To obtain the oxide or carbonate &c. directly, an excess of the alkalineearth oxide, or material producing it, such as calcium carbonate and carbon, is used.
