Improvements in Acetylene Gas Generators

Acetylene. - An apparatus for generating acetylene gas consists of a closed vessel A for holding the metallic carbide, and a water reservoir B containing an openbottomed vessel C, connected by valved pipes c, c with the gas-exit pipe d and the carbide holder respectively. Water passes into the carbide holder through the pipe c until the generation of gas becomes excessive, when the pressure communicated through the pipe c depresses the water in the vessel C and cuts off the supply. Should the rate of generation become very great, the water is further depressed until the gas escapes by the pipe D.
