A number of springs A fixed to a base-plate B support a skeleton frame C formed of half tubing, as shown in Fig. 2. This framing is encased in an inflatable india-rubber jacket E shaped to form a peak pad at D, from which extends a central tube G to the rear portion. Two crossed plates H brace together the springs A and support the middle part of the tube G. The framing is covered with a layer I of horse-hair, felt, &c., over which may be placed leather and a waterproof covering if desired.
