Zusammenfassung:4808. Stevenson, S. Feb. 23. Wood-screws, inserting. Multiple-spindle ma chines for drilling and for fixing screws or nails it boxes and the like are constructed with a row o drilling-spindles C and a second row of spindles I carrying screwdrivers or bits E. The spindles ar driven by bevel gearing from shafts J, K. The work is fixed on a slide N on a table, which can be raised by link mechanism from a shaft operated by a treadle or hand-lever h. The weight of the table and slide is balanced by a counterweight. The slide N is moved by rack and pinion mechanism to bring the work under either of the rows of spindle. B or C. The parts of the box &c. are clamped together by a board Q carried by an arm N pivoted in the bracket N , and by a board 0 carried by a cross-bar N pivoted in an arm N hinged to the bracket N . The cross-bar N can be clamped in position by a hook lever P . To guide the screw. to their holes, a hinged bar S carries longitudina bars T, U on which are fitted blocks with central recesses for the screws. As the work is raised, taper blades Y enter between and separate the bars T, U, allowing the screwdrivers E to insert the screws. The bars T, U are returned by a spring.
