Zusammenfassung:	1490939 Shaft seals GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE AG 25 Feb 1976 [8 March 1975] 7339/76 Heading F2B A shaft seal comprises a ring 1 secured on a shaft 5 and a ring 2 secured resiliently to a housing 7, a gas cushion being provided between the rings (through a pipe 9 to a groove 8) and one of the rings (ring 1 as shown) is of a hardened beryllium-copper alloy containing 1-4% of beryllium and 0À1-0À5% of cobalt and the other ring (ring 2 as shown) is of aluminium with the surface thereof facing the ring 1 being of hard aluminium oxide. The ring 2 is connected to the housing 7 by a gas-tight bellows 6. The materials used reduce wear if the rings come into contact and the beryllium-copper alloy conducts frictional heat away. The materials used are also resistant to H 2 UF 6 so that the seal may be used in nuclear technology.
