The belts are fitted loosely on a drum 10, which is rotatable with a shaft 7 in a direction opposite to that of the drum 2. The interior of the drum 2 has flanges disposed around it, and rubber strips 9 which sag in the upper position to prevent the material from sticking to the drum. The shaft 7 can rotate in the same direction as the drum, or be freely rotatable. The members 6 can be loaded on to the layer by a gas, liquid, or a freeflowing solid material.
