In operation the accurately weighed sample is placed in open work container 27, a measured amount of solvent from vessel 1 is introduced into the container via device 4, the vibrator is set in motion and cooling water circulated through coil 30. When extraction is complete, a measured amount of the resulting solution flows to beaker 40 in evaporation chamber 13, electric heaters 30 and 39 are switched on to remove solvent from the residue in extraction chamber 7 and from the solution in beaker 40 respectively for return to solvent reservoir 16, then when the evaporator has cooled sample container 40 is removed and reweighed to determine the amount of fat extracted from the sample.
