A NEW 4-SUBSTITUTED-1,4-BENZOTHIAZINE DERIVATIVE, ITS PREPARATION, AND ITS MEDICINAL USE

1291670 Nitrofuran derivative FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 19 April 1971 [25 April 1970] 26506/71 Heading C2C The novel compound, 4-(5-nitrofurfurylideneamino) - octahydro - 4H - 1,4 - benzothiazine- 1,1-dioxide, is prepared by reacting 5-nitrofurfural or a reactive derivative thereof with 4 - amino - octahydro - 4H - 1,4 - benzothiazine- 1,1-dioxide. 4 - Amino - octahydro - 4H - 1,4 - benzothiazine-1,1-dioxide is prepared by reacting cyclohexene oxide with 2-mercaptoethanol to form 2 - hydroxyethylthio - cyclohexanol, oxidizing this with H 2 O 2 and treating the resulting sulphone, without isolation, with dilute aqueous sodium hydroxide to give octahydro-1,4-benzoxathiace-4,4-dioxide, and reacting this with hydrazine hydrate to give the desired compound. Pharmaceutical compositions having antitrypanosomal and antihyperglycaemic activity, for oral or parenteral administration, comprise the above novel compound together with a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier.
