Zusammenfassung:	1284138 Methionine purification MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 18 Nov 1969 [18 Nov 1968] 56324/69 Heading C2C A process for separating methionine from the crude reaction product obtained by the hydrolysis of 2-amino-4-methylmercaptobutyronitrile with sulphuric acid and the subsequent neutralization of the hydrolysis product to a pH of from 6À2 to 6À3 with ammonia, comprises heating the crude reaction product in the presence of sufficient water to dissolve completely the methionine, separating the insoluble sludge that is formed and then cooling the remaining solution to crystallize the methionine.
