A FEED PRETREATMENT PROCESS IN THE CODIMERIZATION OF BUTENES AND PROPYLENE

1283423 Pre-treatment of a co-dimerization feed ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 2 Nov 1970 [24 Nov 1969] 52030/70 Heading C5E A feed stream comprising propylene, n-butene, acetylenes, diolefins and heavy oxygenated compounds is selectively hydrogenated to form mono-olefins and saturated compounds, and fractionated to form a bottoms stream containing heavy oxygenated compounds and an overhead stream containing propylene and n-butenes, the overhead stream being passed to a codimerization zone containing a supported nickel oxide catalyst. The butenes stream may be water washed prior to the selective hydrogenation and the hydrogenated stream dried before fractionation. The hydrogenation may be carried out over a catalyst comprising 0À6% Pt on Al 2 O 3 . The co-dimerization catalyst may be nickel oxide on Al 2 O 3 -SiO 2 formed by co-precipitation.
