These compounds may be prepared by (1) reaction of a 1-R-4-piperidone with or with and R3NH 2 ; (2) introduction of the R group (other than H) with the above compound where R is H; (3) forming the compound where R is H by hydrogenolysis of the compound where R is PhCH 2 , or by hydrolysis of the compound where R is C 1-4 alkoxycarbonyl. Therapeutic compositions for oral or parenteral administration comprise compounds of the above formula, which are reserpine antagonists and blood sugar lowering agents.
