TELESCOPIC DOUBLE-ACTING RAM

1276507 Fluid operated rams WESSEX INDUSTRIES (POOLE) Ltd 31 July 1969 [14 Oct 1968] 48625/68 Heading F1P In a double-acting hydraulic or pneumatic telescopic ram comprising a piston 6 slidable in an outer cylinder 2 and a smaller piston 35 slidable in an inner cylinder carried by the piston 6, the inner cylinder is formed from concentric tubes 24, 25 defining a passageway 32, connecting via orifices 33, 34 the retract cylinder spaces 31, 66 to a port 65. To extend the ram, fluid is admitted to the extend cylinder spaces 7, 29 through a cylinder port 8, the port 65 being connected to exhaust. Reversing the connections to the ports 8, 65 causes the ram to retract. Each piston is formed from two parts secured together to define a peripheral groove 17 or 42 for a piston ring 21 or 43.
