1276239 Suturing devices VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT KHIRURGICHESKOI APPARATURY I INSTRUMENTOV 14 Oct 1970 48907/70 Heading A5R [Also in Division B4] A surgical stapling device comprises an elongated housing 1 with a die 3 and a slot 2 receiving a rod 7 of a staple housing 5 and a rod 22 of a staple pusher 21, a head 6 of housing 5 having a socket receiving a magazine 10 containing staples 11, the housing 5 and pusher 21 being reciprocable relative to the support 1 on rotating a nut 12, but only after correct location of the magazine 10, allowing a limit strip 36 to disengage from a slot 41 of nut 12 and to engage in a slot 42 in die 3 to thereby retain the magazine and retain the tissue to be sutured, and the pusher 21 being reciprocable relative to housing 5 to set all the staples simultaneously on rotation of a screw 29 but only after the gap between the die 3 and magazine 10 has been reduced at least to a predetermined value by movement of housing 5 and pusher 21 together, such movement causing engagement of a spring- urged pawl 31, in a slot 30 of screw 29, with a bevel surface 34 in nut 12 to thereby release an end part of pawl 31 from engagement in a slot 35 in one end of rod 7 to allow rotation of screw 29 relative to rod 7.
