The toxicity to warm-blooded animals of a dithiophosphoric ester of the general formula where R is C 1-5 linear or branched alkyl, and R1 is phenyl or carboethoxymethyl, is reduced by adding thereto, either undiluted or in solution, a bromide or iodide of an aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid. Preferably, the acyl halide is added to the ester at a temperature from 70‹ to 90‹ C., and the treatment is carried on for ¢ to 5 hours, the excess acyl halide and any volatiles then being removed. The treated compounds may be used as pesticides.
