[Also in Division F1] A sealing arrangement for a rotary pump shaft 12 comprises a seal housing 8 removably connected to the pump casing 9 and forming an enclosed chamber 18 around the shaft, means within the housing for sealing the shaft thereto, and a pressurized lubricant contained with the chamber. The pump impeller 26 is driven by a motor 7 and the shaft is sealed where it extends through the housing 8 by seals 32 each comprising a seal element urged by springs 33 into rubbing sealing contact with a respective side of a flange 31 on the shaft. A lubricating liquid and then a pressurized gas is admitted to the chamber 18 through an opening 34 which is then closed by a plug 36. The pump casing 9 may be removed from the seal housing 8 and also, if required, the impeller may be removed from the shaft, without depressurizing the housing.
