The invention comprises peroxyethers of formula wherein R 1 is a hydrogen atom, or an oxyalkyl radical; R 2 is an unsubstituted or halogen substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or alkaryl radical; R 3 contains more than 10 carbon atoms and is an unsubstituted or halogen-substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl radical; R 4 is unsubstituted or halogen-substituted alkyl, an unsubstituted or halogen- or alkyl-substituted arylalkyl, cycloalkyl or arylcycloalkyl radical or a radical of formula R 3 -O-CR 1 R 2 -, in which R 1 -R 3 have the above meanings ; or one of R 2 and R 4 is as follows: R 2 being a group of formula wherein R 5 is an alkylene, cycloalkylene, alkenylene, alkynylene or arylene biradical and R 1 , R 3 and R 4 have the meanings defined above; and R 4 being a group having the general formula wherein R 1 -R 3 have the meanings defined above and R 6 is an unsubstituted or halogen-substituted alkylene, cycloalkylene, alkenylene, alkynylene, arylene or aralkylene biradical. These compounds may be prepared by peroxidating an ether of formula or in which R 1 , R 3 and R 6 are as defined above and R 2 1 is an unsubstituted or halogen substituted alkylidene, cycloalkylidene or arylalkylidene radical, with hydrogen peroxide or an organic peroxide of formula or in which formulae R 2 , R 4 and R 6 are as defined above, in the presence of an acid catalyst. |
