Polyethylene polyamines having at least two ethylene radicals are purified by feeding the amine and water, at a weight ratio of water to total amines of not more than 5 : 1, into a distillation zone to remove impurities overhead as an azeotrope with water and recovering the polyethylene polyamine from the base of the zone. Mixtures of amines may be so purified, e.g. crude products or final product fractions from the reaction of ammonia with ethylene dichloride, ethanolamine or ethylene oxide, such as diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine and tetraethylene pentamine.
