An axial-flow fan comprises an open-ended tubular casing 1 having access means in the form of a door (23) and removable panels (24, 25), Fig. 2 (not shown), and supporting a directly coupled motor 3 and impeller 4, a housing 5, 6, 7 enclosing the motor and a coupling 10 and arranged in sealing relation with a bearing housing 12, and hollow aerofoil blades 13, 14, (15) communicating with the interior of housing, blades 14, (15) also communicating with the exterior of the casing and the blade 13 extending lengthwise of the casing and also communicating at 16 with the air intake end of the casing. The depression created in the intake end of the casing by the flow through it draws atmospheric air through the blades 14, (15) into the housing 5, 6, 7 and around the bearing housing 12 and the motor 3 to cool the bearings and the motor and thence through the blade 13 into the casing. |
