The novel compound, 3-(α-methylphenethyl)- N-(phenylcarbamoyl)-sydnone imine, is obtained by reacting 3-(α-methylphenethyl)-syndone imine hydrochloride with phenyl isocyanate in a polar solvent in the presence of sodium acetate. Pharmaceutical compositions, having a stimulating effect on the central nervous system and suitable for oral administration, contain the above novel compound and pharmaceutically acceptable diluents.
