[Also in Division C5] Novel alkylaminoalkylsulphinic acid salts of formula R-C n H 2n -SO 2 M in which R is a secondary or tertiary amino group derived from a straight or branched chain saturated aliphatic amine or polyamine, containing a total of 1-4 N atoms and 8-40 C atoms, and substituted on at least one N atom by a C 8-18 alkyl group, n is an integer from 1-6, and M is a monovalent metal cation, one equivalent of a polyvalent metal cation, or an ammonium or substituted ammonium cation, are made by reacting an amine R-H in aqueous medium with a salt of formula X-C n H 2n -SO 2 M in which X is OH, functionally modified OH, Cl, Br or I. The compounds possess cleansing, disinfecting, fungicidal and algicidal properties (see Division C5).
