Zusammenfassung: | 126,044. Wilde, J. S. Nov. 13, 1916. Grapnels. -Relates to a grappling-device for under-running and picking up submerged cables, more particularly the towing cables of under water bodies towed from ships for defensive and offensive purposes against mines or submarines. The grapnel has a kiting or planing action in the water and comprises a flat shank 1, Figs. 1 and 4, and flukes or lugs 2 parallel thereto, with intermediate sheaves or rollers 3. The upper end of the shank is shackled to a towing chain by a link 4, and the lower end may have a link 4 for a tripping or releasing wire. The flukes may be flared outwardly at the ends to facilitate action. Adjustable wings 6, Fig. 6, may also be secured to the lugs or flukes 2 to ensure the grapnel taking up a correct direction when towed. |
