In an injection moulding machine having a toggle-operated mould locking mechanism plastics material is injected into the incompletely locked mould 11 and subsequently the toggle 4 is operated to completely lock the mould thereby ensuring better filling of the mould cavity. A plate 6 mounted on one of the toggle levers 7 co-operates with a non-contact induction switch 9 before complete straightening of the toggle, thereby stopping the mould-closing action. After injection, final straightening of the toggle is effected.
