[Also in Division A5] Phosphate derivatives of the formula where R is C 1-4 alkyl or C 2-8 alkyl containing 1 or 2 oxygen atoms as linking atoms, X is oxygen or sulphur, and R1 is C 1-4 alkyl, C 2-4 alkenyl, C 3-4 alkynyl, aryl, or aralkyl, where the aryl groups may be substituted by one or more C 1-4 alkyl, halogen, C 1-3 alkoxy, alkylthio, C 1-3 alkyl sulphinyl or alkyl sulphonyl, sulphonamido, C 1-4 N-alkyl sulphonamido or N,N-dialkyl sulphonamido where each alkyl is C 1-4 , are prepared (a) by reacting 4-chloroacetoacetyl chloride with an alcohol R1OH or mercaptan R1SH to form the ester and reacting the ester with an appropriate trialkyl phosphite, or (b) by reacting a 3-dialkoxy (phosphinyloxy) crotonyl chloride with a compound R1XH in the presence of a base. Compounds of the formula are prepared by subjecting the above described phosphate to the action of a strong base, and compounds of the formula where R2 is C 1-4 alkylene, n is 0, 1 or 2, and R3 is C 1-3 alkyl, or when n=2, R3 can be amino, alkylamino or dialkylamino in which each alkyl is C 1-4 . The phosphate derivatives have pesticidal properties.
