A process for the production of 3,31-bis-2- pyrazolines, including the novel compounds of the formula wherein D and J are each an aryl radical and L, G and E are each a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical, a cycloalkyl radical, an alkoxy radical or an aryl radical, comprises reacting iodine with a 2-pyrazoline having an unsubstituted 3- position, in a common solvent therefor, e.g. an alkyl halide and increasing the basicity of the reaction mixture to liberate the product therefrom. Isomeric 3,31-bis-2-pyrazolines formed may be separated by fractional crystallization. The aryl radicals represented by D and J may contain substituents, e.g. Cl, OH, NMe 2 and alkoxy groups. The known and novel 3,31-bis-2-pyrazolines are used in electrophotographic compositions as photoconductors.
