Zusammenfassung:1,221,555. Multiple cutter lathe; preventing backlash. STANKOSTROITELNY ZAVOD IM DZERZHINSKOGO AND MOSKOVSKOE VYSSHEE TEKHNICHESKOE UCHILISCHE IM N. E. BAUMANA. 8 Oct., 1968, No. 47642/68. Headings B3B and B3T. A multiple cutter lathe comprises a pair of rotatable cutter mounting discs 4, 5 each provided within a row or rows of cutters 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 angularly spaced thereon and arranged to come into contact with the rotating workpiece consecutively, the cutters on one disc coming into contact with the work alternately with those on the other disc. The cutters are axially and or radially spaced so as to machine longitudinal or end faces of the workpiece. The cutter mounting disc 4 may also carry one or more displaceable cutters such as the chamfering cutter 12, Fig. 1, which is carried by a pivoted lever 13 and operated by stationary cam 17 and push rod 16 as the disc 4 rotates; the cutter 12 and lever 13 are returned after the machining operation by a spring 15. The discs 4, 5 are mounted on cam-shafts 3 driven from the work spindle 1 by gear transmission 29-34, and worm gearing 18, 19, 20. Cams 25 on the shafts 3 control electromagnetic clutches 28, 33 to engage and disengage the cutting drive from motor 26 and a fast drive from motor 37 to return the discs 4, 5 after cutting to the initial position i.e. through angle W 1 , Fig. 2. Wormwheels 18 mounted on the shafts 3 are engaged by two worms 18, 19 adjustably arranged to eliminate backlash. For this purpose worm 20 is axially displaceable in the direction H.
