A method of manufacturing structural members from metal blanks includes the step of bending at least two elements of a blank simultaneously through different angles so that the horizontal projections of the most displaced part of each element are equal during each stage of the forming process. In the formation of a Z-shaped structural member the blank 1 is first bent about an axis O by a cold roll forming machine (not shown) to form elements n, h and m (Fig. I) by bending stages 2, 3 and 4 such that the horizontal projections a 1 , a 2 , a 3 of the extremities of each element between each bending stage are equal. Secondly the element n, his bent in a roll stand about an axis O 1 (Fig. 2) to . form elements n and h of the Z-shaped member and simultaneously forming the final angle between elements h and m. The horizontal projections b 1 , b 2 , b 3 of the extremities of each element n and h between each bending stage are also equal. In forming an unequal-flange channel guider (Fig. 4) the blank is progressively bent to form elements R, S, P such that the horizontal projections d 1 to d 5 are equal at each bending stage. In another embodiment an L-shaped girder is formed by the above method. |
