A thixotropic paint comprises an unsaponifiable binder in solution in an organic solvent and 1 to 30% by weight, based on the weight of binder, of a thixotropic polyurethane prepared from diisocyanates and diols. Suitable binders are chlorinated and cyclized rubber, acrylonitrile - butadiene - styrene copolymer and chlorinated polypropylene. The compositions contain conventional plasticizers, pigments &c. Thixotropic polyurethanes are made by reacting 1,3,5 - triisopropyl benzene diisocyanate with octadecane diol-(1,12), 2-ethyl hexane diol-(1,3), or octadecene-9,10-diol-(1,12) in solution in a plasticizer such as chlorinated diphenyl and/or a conventional solvent.
