In an ignition distributer the break gap between the contacts 29, 31 of the contact breaker mounted on a metal plate 28 is adjustable by means of a screw 26 which engages in a threaded hole 24 in an upstanding post 23 formed on a hinged portion 19 of a plastics plate 15 fixed in the housing 11. The plate 28 is movable towards and away from cam-shaft 13 by screw 26. The metal plate 28 is mounted on the post 23 which is biased radially away from the housing by resilient arms 25. The plate 28 may be moved angularly with respect to shaft 13 by a vacuum unit to advance or retard ignition. Plate 15 is of resilient plastics and is sprung into a circumferential groove 14 in the casing. A U-shaped spring clip 34 has its ends engaged in holes in metal plate 28 and its bight engaged under a flap 23a of post 23 to bias the metal plate 28 against the plastics plate 15. A capacitor 16a is encapsulated in an integral housing 16 on plate 15 as in Specification 1,188,649.
